There’s a common saying in the military about the five Ps. Or six Ps, depending on who you ask.
The point is: be prepared.
But when you’re dealing with certain things out here in the real world, it doesn’t always work that way.
Today it rained.
It’s monsoon season, so technically that shouldn’t be surprising. But when my mother was alive, I used to tell her how beautiful Arizona was when it rained.
She’d always say, “I just can’t picture it raining out there.”
Every time she visited me, it never rained.
Today marks two years since she’s no longer been with us.
And guess what it did first thing this morning?
It rained.
The five Ps—or six Ps—are about being prepared. And they work outside the military too. But life will throw you a curveball every now and then and show you just how unprepared you really are.
The twists and turns of life.
Some things you can plan for. Some things you can’t.
And because it never rained when she was here, but it rained today, I’ll take that as confirmation that sometimes you’re never going to be completely prepared.
You just have to be willing and ready to work.
And right now, I’m ready to get back to work.
So as the lightning flashes, as the thunder rolls, the rain continues to drop—and the world does not stop.
And if it’s lightning within five, make sure you get inside.
Me?
I’ve got a cup of joe, and I’m enjoying the rain.
That’s something she would’ve done too.
We loved the rain.
So take some time today, if you can. Enjoy the weather. Try not to get wet.
But if you do get wet, let it cleanse your soul.
Until next episode—
I like those trees.
